In Search of the Best One Cup Coffee Machine

After being dragged from store to store in our quest for the perfect one cup coffee machine, we finally took a break and stopped into a neighborhood coffee house to get a quick espresso.

I struck up a conversation with the woman sitting at the next table, after overhearing her talk about her Keurig one cup coffee maker.

Sally was kind enough to share with me what she particularly liked and more importantly what she really disliked about her fairly expensive Keurig coffee brewer.

What she told me was that her Keurig coffee brewer was so loud every time she wanted to brew a single cup of espresso or coffee, her husband left the room... not to return anytime soon. So, she, too was shopping for single cup coffee makers. A 1 cup coffee maker was the perfect solution in her home, because she was the sole coffee enthusiast, and she went on to tell me that since the one cup coffee brewers made such good tasting coffee drinks, she felt it was silly for her to have a full line of espresso making equipment just for one person.

Like us, she was in search of a better coffee maker that would not only make a great cup of espresso or coffee, but quiet enough that she could keep the peace (no pun intended!) in her home, too. Her frustration was that there are so many single cup coffee makers to choose from, and you can't try them out before you buy.

We shared a bit and I told her how at the local Sur la Table shop for cookware, we had a demo with the Nespsresso representative. He was kind enough to brew us up several different espressos and lattes by using the built in Nespresso milk frother. The Nespresso coffee machines were nearly silent, and the coffee was really good! What I learned was that the Nestle coffee machine - the Nespresso espresso machine - used more bars of pressure to deliver more taste from every capsule of coffee.

And for the price... the Nespresso espresso machines were the best bargain. Since we entertain quite a bit, this type of 1 cup coffee maker fits our lifestyle. You can brew more than a dozen coffee drinks before you need to add water or even empty the receptacle.

I was relieved to learn that the ever popular Keurig brewer wasn't worth the extra dollars, and we returned to the shop to take home our new one cup coffee machine. Now we needed to compare the different models... it's always something!
