How to Deal With Summer Slowdown in Business - 3 Tips to Get Things Sizzling Again

It's something that happens almost every year. As the temperature goes up, sales go down. Unless you are in the travel industry or fix air conditioners, I am sure that it has happened to you at least once. It is tempting to say forget about it and just sit by the pool waiting for you sales to go back up. If you know me at all, you know I am going to say that it is not a good idea to ignore this problem. The rest of this article will give you suggestions and tips on how to deal with the summer slowdown in your business.

1. Keep marketing.
I know it is easier said than done. This is definitely not the time to pull the plug on any campaigns you are currently running. Chances are your competition has already stopped their advertising campaign. If you keep on advertising when others have stopped, you will be ahead of the game because your ad will be competing with less distractions. You don't see major companies pulling advertising campaigns just because it is summer, do you?

2. Use this time to do some personal development.
Since you are not as busy with clients, now is an excellent time to invest in yourself. Is there a class you have been wanting to take? Take it now, since you actually have the time to devote to it. There is no better investment than in your own education. Have you been wanting to get some coaching done. This is a good time to do it. You might even be able to get a discount because sometimes coaches go through slow times during the summer too.

3. Catch up with your network.
I am sure that there are some people in your network that you have lost touch with. Use this down time to reconnect. Email them or even better give them a call. Meet someone near you for coffee or lunch. Odds are you are one of the few people thinking about business right now, so you'll stand a better shot at getting on that person's calendar.

It's tough when sales go down and you've done nothing different than you normally do. This is not the time to throw in the towel or panic. Just keep marketing, advertising and networking like you did before. Things are bound to turn around and improve. Things certainly will not get any better if you stop marketing just because you believe people have stopped buying. There's still someone out there buying what you are selling even in the summer season. You just have to stay diligent and find that person.
