Before you set up a cleaning process, one should always have a consistent supply of all the items needed to perform the cleaning. Firstly, you will need an Espresso machine cleaning agent such as back-flush detergents. You will also need a soft cleaning cloth, some green scrub and a soaking container. You can also have a cleaning brush to help you clean the hidden sections of the machine and a screwdriver to unscrew the head. Once you have gathered all the cleaning agents, the following steps should then be followed when cleaning the coffee maker.

Turn off the machine and unplug it from the power source. This is an important and safe step for your daily Espresso machine cleaning.
Soak the washing cloth in warm water and add the cleaning detergent to the warm water. Follow the instructions given in the detergent when using it.
Start your cleaning process by wiping off all the coffee residue and waste that resides on the shower screen. Different coffee makers will have different dirt collecting regions and this excessive dirt should first get removed.
Unscrew the group head with a screwdriver to enable you clean the inner parts of the group head with the green scrub. Gentle clean the inner sections and remove all the residue. In the more hidden areas, you can use a brush to remove the sticky dirt. For the more detailed weekly cleaning sessions, you can leave these parts soaked overnight in water and Espresso machine cleaning agent.
Back-flush the machine as per the manufacturers instruction. In most coffee makers, this will entail running the pump in small intervals and release the water after the flush to remove dirt from within the machine. As you release the pressure, the cleaning detergent will force its way through the valves and through the dispenser screen. The manufacturers instructions should also include the frequency for back-flushing.
Use a wet cloth to clean the milk section and steam sections. You can use a pipe cleaner to remove any milk residue from the Espresso machine pipes.
Give the machine time to dry up and reassemble it back.

Proper cleaning and maintaining of the Coffee makers will ensure that they last for a long while.
