The amount of coffee residues, oil, grinds left in your coffee maker may go unnoticed. That is until it breaks down and stops working. If you have a problem with a clogged coffee maker, this is the best time to find out a good solution to this problem.
Find out where the clogging initiates. If it just does not brew properly or it drips poorly, then the inside of the brewer is clogged. In this case, unplug your brewer and discard the coffee grinds, disposable filters and start a new cycle but this time, it is a cleaning cycle.
Remove the coffee basket and water reservoir. Remove any part that is detachable. Once you have done so, clean the parts where these are located. Make sure no coffee grinder residues remain. Once you have done so, assemble them again.
Prepare the necessary amount of water. The amount should be the same one you are using when you brew your coffee but lessen half a cup of it to make way for half a cup of white vinegar. Add the vinegar to the water and pour it on the water reservoir.
Once you have done so, place a new filter but do not add the coffee beans. You will run the vinegar cycle without the coffee beans. Set the brewing cycle and let vinegar pass through the inside of your coffee machine.
The white vinegar can help dissolve any sediments inside whether it is lime scale, molds or coffee residues. Do this process until you see an improvement in the flow of liquid from the coffee brewer.
Afterwards, run another cycle but this time without the vinegar. This is to wash off the smell and taste of vinegar inside your brewer. Do this until the vinegar smell wears off. After that, your coffee brewer should work fine again.
It is imperative that you do this method once a week to prevent any form of build up and prolong the life of your brewer. Lime tends to build up as a result of the calcium found in your water source. Also, molds like to thrive in humid and moist places.
Try this trick whenever your brewer is acting up. It should work perfectly fine once the cause of the clogging is removed. However, if it is still not working, clogging may not be the cause. In this case, you need to figure out what seems to be the problem.

Is it ok to use the vinegar cleaning method on an espresso machine? Mine has begun to drip so slowly it isn't worth using... the company suggests buying their expensive cleaning solution.
